Government Consults on New Local Content Strategy
The Government has launched consultations in Southern Province on a new National Local Content Strategy aimed at strengthening Zambian businesses and increasing their participation in key sectors of the economy.
The consultations follow the expiry of the previous strategy in 2022 and will help shape a new framework for increasing the use of locally produced goods, services and materials.
Speaking at the opening of consultations in Livingstone, District Commissioner Eunice Nawa said the strategy will also focus on skills development, technology transfer and value addition.
The Government aims to build the capacity of Zambian businesses, enabling smaller suppliers to develop into competitive enterprises capable of serving both domestic and export markets.
UNECA Chief of Inclusive Industrialization Section Olayinka Bandele called for Zambia to adopt a capability-based approach to local content. She said the strategy should move beyond procurement targets and focus on developing competitive Zambian enterprises.
