Livingstone Road Upgrade to Be Completed by November

The upgrading of 8.31 kilometres of roads in Livingstone to bituminous standard is expected to be completed by November this year, at a cost of more than K130 million.

The works are being carried out under the Green, Resilient and Transformational Tourism Development Project (GREAT-TDP), which is funded by the World Bank. The project is aimed at strengthening infrastructure in Zambia's tourist capital, improving the experience for both residents and visitors to one of the country's most important travel destinations.

Livingstone City Council Public Relations Manager Melvin Mukela said the programme also includes the installation of street lights along selected roads, work that has already been completed at a cost of K24 million. The new lighting is expected to improve safety and visibility at night, supporting businesses that operate after dark and making the city more welcoming to tourists.

Once the remaining works are finished in November, the city will have a stretch of newly surfaced roads alongside the completed street-lighting network, marking a visible improvement to Livingstone's urban infrastructure and reinforcing its position as a leading gateway for tourism in the region.
