Former Ministers Back Government's Economic Record
Chipoka Mulenga, former commerce, trade and industry minister said civil servants and local authority employees have received salaries on time thanks to President Hakainde Hichilema took office in 2021.
Mr Mulenga said the President lifted the public sector wage freeze and has passed salary raises for civil servants.
He reported to ZNBC News in an interview that claims made by the Tonse Alliance that council workers have been going for months without receiving their salaries.
Mr Mulenga also said that lifting the wage freeze has allowed for thousands of teachers to be recruited in UPND efforts to support free education. Furthermore, doctors and other public service workers have been recruited under the UPND formed Government.
He urged Zambians to be careful when selecting their leaders as the country needs people with knowledge and capacity to manage national issues.
He added that the former PF administration, whose members are now part of the Tonse Alliance left office with a high inflation rate of 23.8%. Since then, inflation has fallen to 6.5%, reflecting a more stable economy.
Former Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe said Government is carrying out geological mapping in various parts of the country including Western Province.
Mr Kabuswe reported the initiative will help unlock investment opportunities and support infrastructure development including roads and airports, especially in tourist hotspots such as Liuwa National Park.
He accused the Tonse Alliance of misleading the public, claiming that the alliance wants to benefit from the economic progress made under the current administration.
