Kapiri Mposhi Telecoms Tower Inaugurated as Government Expands Digital Connectivity
Minister of Technology and Science Felix C. Mutati on 13 February officially inaugurated a new telecommunications tower in Kapiri Mposhi, constructed by IHS Towers, praising the infrastructure as a milestone in the government's drive to connect all Zambians to reliable digital services.
The tower serves over 7,000 residents with uninterrupted mobile and digital services. IHS Director of Operations Eng. Otun Adekune said the facility operates independently of the national grid, powered by a hybrid system combining generators, lithium batteries, and solar energy to ensure round-the-clock connectivity.
Mr Mutati noted that four towers have now been built in Kapiri Mposhi District, with fourteen deployed across Central Province. The expanded coverage has improved mobile money transactions and digital access for farmers, traders, and marketeers across the region.
The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, to universal network access, announcing that USD 100 million secured from the International Monetary Fund will fund 300 additional towers nationwide.
District Commissioner Mr Hasalama thanked the President and the Ministry for prioritising digital infrastructure in the area. Mr Mutati assured residents that further towers would be deployed to support mobile businesses, social cash transfers, and the Farmer Input Support Programme, urging communities to protect the installations as key investments by the New Dawn Government.
