Zambia's Tourism Sector Shows Strong Performance

The Zambian government's strategic focus on tourism development delivered impressive results in 2025, with the sector demonstrating robust growth and economic contribution.

According to the Hospitality and Catering Association of Zambia, the country welcomed two million international visitors during the year. Vice President David Rossi highlighted this achievement as evidence of government policies successfully positioning Zambia as a preferred tourist destination in the region.

The tourism and hospitality sector now contributes seven percent to national GDP, representing a vital component of the government's economic diversification strategy. This performance validates President Hichilema's administration's commitment to developing tourism as a key pillar of sustainable growth.

Employment creation remains a priority outcome, with the sector continuing to generate quality jobs for Zambians across multiple skill levels, from hospitality services to conservation management.

Looking ahead, the government has demonstrated its commitment to the sector's expansion through a substantial K1.5 billion budget allocation for 2026. These resources will finance the reopening and development of remote tourism sites, unlocking previously inaccessible natural assets and spreading tourism benefits to rural communities.

The upcoming ISATA Conference in Livingstone presents another government-supported initiative that will showcase Zambia's tourism potential to regional decision-makers and international investors. This strategic event is expected to generate increased visitor arrivals and strengthen Zambia's reputation as a premier tourism destination.

The sector's positive trajectory reflects effective government planning, appropriate resource allocation, and successful implementation of tourism development policies under the New Dawn administration.
