Lusaka Receives K28 Million for Cash for Work Programme
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has disbursed K28 million to beneficiaries under Phase One of the Cash for Work Programme in Lusaka District.
Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Nicholas Phiri confirmed the payment forms part of K119 million owed to 200,000 beneficiaries across the programme. He made the announcement during an orientation session for Council Secretaries and Town Clerks on the revised Phase Two Cash for Work Programme, held in Chongwe District.
Phiri explained that Phase Two has been restructured to address challenges identified during the initial phase. He emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency among local authority officials in programme implementation.
Smart Zambia Initiative National Coordinator Percy Chinyama highlighted that a newly developed system will support the Ministry's efforts to advance economic growth and social inclusion through the Cash for Work initiative.
The Cash for Work Programme forms part of government's social protection efforts to provide employment opportunities and support community development.
The revised second phase aims to improve efficiency and ensure timely payments to beneficiaries across participating districts.
