The Zambian Government Released More Than 13 billion Kwacha to Fund Key National Priorities

In August, the Zambian government released more than 13 billion kwacha to fund key national priorities and support development initiatives. Of this sum, 4.9 billion kwacha was designated for servicing both domestic and external debt, while 4.8 billion kwacha went toward the public service wage bill. Another 1.1 billion kwacha was allocated for transfers, subsidies, and social benefits.

The Ministry of Finance also disbursed 1.5 billion kwacha to support programme implementation in strategic areas, including geological mapping and mobile voter registration, aiding resource management and democratic participation. Capital expenditure received 740 million kwacha to fund infrastructure and other development projects.

Finance and National Planning Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane highlighted that the release underscores the government’s commitment to transforming lives. He stressed that the consistent flow of funds reflects transparency and reliability in delivering budgetary commitments.

Under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, Dr. Musokotwane said, Zambia is progressing toward a prosperous, resilient, and inclusive future. The government’s efforts to clear arrears aim to restore public trust, maintain private sector liquidity, and boost investor confidence. Each kwacha released, he added, strengthens macroeconomic stability and creates the certainty needed to attract investment and support sustainable growth.
