DRC Endorses Zambia’s Beef Export Potential

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has praised Zambia’s modern abattoirs and the disease-free compartments, describing them as proof of the country’s readiness to become a leading exporter of quality beef in the region.

DRC Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary Pascaline Kikumbi expressed interest in importing Zambia’s high-quality, internationally certified beef.

Speaking during a tour of modern abattoirs and disease-free compartments in Southern and Central Provinces, Ms Kikumbi commended the systems in place as a model for safe and sustainable meat production in Southern Africa.

Meanwhile, Zambia Beef Export Project Manager Dr. Misheck Mulumba said the initiative is opening new trade corridors, boosting farmer incomes, and positioning Zambia for entry into global markets.

“We took a deliberate effort to promote beef exports. First of all, targeting the southern region and then the wider African region. And then later on we might even go to the middle east and Asia,” he stated.

Dr Pius Chilonda, Manager at PSC Ranching Ltd, Mumbwa, reiterated Dr Mulumba’s remarks.

“This will definitely be very beneficial to us because we will be getting higher prices for our beef. And I believe that the price you are going to get will be able to invest in our production,” Chilonda stated.

With these advancements, Zambia is steadily turning its vision of exceeding $1 billion in beef exports into a reality.
