Residents Praise Government's Progress on Power Supply

Residents in several Lusaka compounds are expressing gratitude to the UPND government for significant improvements in electricity supply, with some areas now receiving up to 15 hours of power per day under the new load-shedding schedule.

Energy Minister Makozo Chikote recently announced that several compounds are receiving up to 15 hours of power per day and indicated that the country is likely to see a significant change in its power supply by the end of December 2025.

In Chaisa Compound, shop owner Nkhoma shared his positive experience: "We have power sometimes throughout the day, so much so that we even forget that there's load-shedding in the country. We normally have electricity for over 15 hours per day. As for us who own businesses, we don't complain often because we have electricity throughout the day."

Another Chaisa resident emphasized their appreciation: "To be truthful, here in Chaisa, we are grateful to both the government and Zesco for providing us with so much power. Sometimes we even get surprised when other traders from different compounds are complaining about load-shedding because for us, we have power for many hours."

Garden Compound residents have also reported positive experiences, with one hairdresser explaining: "Power comes at 07:00 hours or 08:00 hours and gets cut at 19:00 or even 20:00 hours, depending on the schedule for that week. Otherwise, for us here in Garden Compound, we have no issues with the power problems that people are complaining about."

Another Garden resident praised the government's efforts: "We are grateful to the UPND government for working very hard. Next year, it is for you."

Residents in Chawama have similarly expressed happiness, reporting electricity from morning hours until evening, sometimes until 20:00 hours. These improvements demonstrate the UPND government's commitment to addressing Zambia's energy challenges.
