Economy Predicted to Expand at least 6%
It is predicted that the country’s economy will increase by at least 6% this year, thanks to improved rainfall and higher levels of copper production.
Speaking during Bloomberg’s annual Africa Business Media Innovators conference earlier this week, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane commented that he was confident that the economy would grow to 6%, and that such growth would be the highest that the country has seen since President Hakainde Hichilema was inaugurated in 2021.
“We just need to maintain this for 10, 15 years — positive growth every year. I think people will begin to see that it’s not a certainty that you are born in poverty and you will end in poverty. Things can change.” Musokotwane commented.
The news comes as inflation has started to slow as well as the Kwacha seeing strong growth, marked as the second-best performer against the dollar in Africa this year. It’s appreciated 11% in 2025.
