CEC Becomes First LuSE-Listed Company to Reach US$1 Billion Market Capitalisation
The Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) has made history as the first company listed on the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) to achieve a market capitalisation of over US$1 billion, a landmark moment for Zambia’s capital markets and energy sector.
CEC’s Head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, Verona Nkolola, announced the milestone following a 6.19% increase in the company’s share price, rising from K16.65 to K17.68 on May 22, 2025. The jump pushed the company’s market valuation beyond the billion-dollar threshold.
“This historic achievement underscores investor confidence in the company’s solid performance and growth trajectory,” said Nkolola. “Since the start of 2025, CEC’s share price has surged by 27%, with an extraordinary year-on-year increase of 129.02%.”
CEC Managing Director Owen Silavwe echoed the sentiment, attributing the company’s strong market performance to strategic execution and brand credibility. “This milestone not only marks a proud moment for CEC but also reinforces our responsibility to continue identifying growth opportunities aligned to our strategy, enabling delivery of sustainable value to our shareholders and the wider Zambian economy,” he said.
LuSE Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Kabaso praised the development as a turning point for Zambia’s capital markets. He felt confident that the capital markets will remain an anchor for Zambia’s sustainable economic development.
Since its listing in 2008, CEC has grown from a local power utility into a key player in Zambia’s energy landscape. The company continues to focus on delivering long-term value through innovation, operational excellence, and a commitment to the country’s sustainable development goals.
