Government to Settle Copper Queens' Outstanding Payments Before WAFCON

The Government has pledged to clear all outstanding payments and allowances owed to the Copper Queens before they begin their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign, ensuring the squad travels to Morocco free from financial concerns as it pursues a first-ever continental title.

Speaking at the team's official farewell luncheon, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe said the Government remains committed to honouring its obligations to the players. He confirmed that all outstanding allowances, including arrears dating back to 2022, will be paid before Zambia's opening fixture at the tournament.

Chileshe added that the same commitment to settling outstanding dues will also be extended to the Chipolopolo.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba expressed confidence in the Copper Queens' readiness for the competition, highlighting the team's extensive preparations. He noted that the squad has benefited from valuable competitive matches through the FIFA Series in Brazil, the Four Nations Tournament and the COSAFA Women's Championship.

Zambia has been drawn in Group C, where the Copper Queens will face Nigeria, Malawi and Egypt. The 2026 WAFCON tournament will be staged in Morocco from 26 July to 16 August.
