KCM Pledges Continued Support for Grassroots Sports

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) has reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots sports development as a cornerstone of youth empowerment and community building across the areas in which it operates.

Speaking at a football match between Nampundwe Football Club and ZAMMSA held in Nampundwe, KCM Acting Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Mewett said the mining giant's investment in community sports goes beyond the pitch, serving as a vital tool for nurturing young talent and strengthening social bonds.

"Investing in grassroots sports plays a critical role in nurturing talent and building strong communities," Mr. Mewett said, adding that promoting inclusivity in sports ensures that children with special needs feel valued and accepted.

The event, which drew enthusiastic crowds, featured both football and netball competitions showcasing the abilities of young athletes from the surrounding area.

Senior Chief Shakumbila of Shibuyunji District used the occasion to call on children to take their education seriously, reminding young people that discipline and commitment remain the foundations of lasting success in school and in life.

Nampundwe Football Club player Landson Nzoma expressed gratitude on behalf of players and community members, thanking KCM for its sustained support of the team and broader youth programmes in the area.

KCM's engagement underscores the growing role of Zambia's mining sector in driving inclusive community development beyond its core operations.
