Haalubono Targets Sharper Finishing as Copper Queens Prepare for Eswatini
Zambia's assistant coach Charles Haalubono has identified finishing as the key area for improvement after the Copper Queens were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Zimbabwe in their second group match of the COSAFA Women's Championship on Sunday.
Despite dominating possession and creating several clear-cut opportunities, Zambia were unable to find the back of the net, leaving Haalubono and the technical bench determined to sharpen the team's attacking edge ahead of their next fixture.
The stalemate means both Zambia and Zimbabwe now sit level on four points after two matches, although the Copper Queens retain top spot in the group thanks to a superior goal difference. Zambia will look to reassert their authority when they take on Eswatini on Tuesday, with kick-off scheduled for 12:00 hours.
Speaking after the match, Haalubono was honest in his assessment, acknowledging that his side failed to capitalise on the chances they carved out. However, he was quick to credit Zimbabwe for a disciplined and well-organised defensive display that made life difficult for the Copper Queens throughout the contest.
Striker Sampa Chisanga echoed her coach's sentiments, conceding that the team fell below the standards they have set for themselves. Despite the disappointment, Chisanga struck an optimistic tone, expressing confidence that the squad has the quality to raise their performance in the remaining group matches and secure the results needed to progress in the tournament.
