Shepolopolo U17 Reach COSAFA Cup Final
Zambia’s U-17s women’s football team have reached the final of the COSAFA round-robin tournament in South Africa after beating Comoros 3-0 in the group stages on Tuesday.
The young Shepolopolo will face off against Tanzania in the Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
The U-17s side have managed to secure their place in the final before the group stages even finished, beating both South Africa and Tanzania 2-1.
However, Tanzania have had a strong tournament elsewhere, thumping Zimbabwe 10-1 on Tuesday. Both teams are on nine points as they gear up to face each other in the final.
Speaking about yesterday’s game against Comoros, Zambia coach Kangwa Kaluba said it was important that the team conserve their energy for the big fixture on Saturday.
“We knew that we were going to win this game so we had to make it easy and tactical so that our children can have extra energy to play in the next match and the final.”
Zambia still have to face off against Zimbabwe at the Oval on Thursday, but the fixture is merely a formality. All eyes are now on Saturday’s final.
