Ex-Chipolopolo Coach Moves to Tanzania’s Simba
Former Chipolopolo coach Sven Vadenbroeck has been confirmed as the new head coach for Tanzania’s Simba SC with a one year contract for the position.
Vadenbroeck won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as the assistant coach to the Cameroonian side. His position with Chipolopolo was his first senior national coaching job. However, his appointment in June 2018 was based on an eight month contract subject to renewal if the Zambian national team qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations. He departed in February of this year, after the team failed to reach this target, coming bottom of Group K in the qualifiers below Guinea-Bissau, Namibia and Mozambique.
Expectations following his move will be high. Simba are the reigning Tanzania Premier League champions and the team reached the quarter-final of the CAF Champions League last season.
Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is working to appoint a new coach to the Chipolopolo team. With the deadline for application passed on November 25th the group’s general secretary Adrian Kashala has confirmed that they have had more than 50 applicants for the position, which they plan to reduce to a 15-man shortlist in the new year.
Vadenbroeck was reported to be among the applicants, along with former eSwatini national coach Kosta Papic, Srdjan Zivojnov, Danish-born trainers, Flemming Serritslev and Jesper Fredberg, Romanians Valeria Tita and Gheorghe Cornea, Frenchman Lionel Soccoia, Marcello Troisi of Brazil, and Graig Rosslee from South Africa.
