Hichilema Tasks New Deputy Auditor General With Timely Audits

President Hakainde Hichilema has called for stronger accountability in how public money is managed. He urged the newly sworn-in Deputy Auditor General for Audits, Patricia Malaila, to make sure audits are carried out and completed on time.

Speaking at her swearing-in at State House, the President said audits lose much of their value when they are delayed. Their purpose, he said, is to help government spot weaknesses early and put them right before problems grow.

He stressed that every kwacha matters. Losses that look small on individual transactions can add up to large sums, he warned, money that could otherwise go into education, skills development and electricity for Zambians.

The President called on both public officials and ordinary citizens to protect resources meant for the people. He said the Office of the Auditor General must remain strong, independent and respected in promoting the responsible use of public funds.

Ms Malaila takes up the role of Deputy Auditor General in the Audit Division, where she will help oversee how government institutions account for the money they spend.

The President's message puts timely auditing at the centre of his government's push for accountability. Faster audits mean problems are caught sooner, losses are reduced and more public money reaches the services Zambians rely on.
