President Hichilema Hosts China's Special Envoy at Community House

President Hakainde Hichilema on Wednesday afternoon hosted the Vice Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Madame Xian Hui, who served as Special Envoy of His Excellency President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China, at Community House in Lusaka.

Reflecting on the meeting, President Hichilema said Zambia and China share a long-standing friendship. He conveyed Zambia's gratitude to President Xi for sending a Special Envoy to attend his inauguration, describing the gesture as a mark of the enduring ties between the two countries.

That friendship, the President said, is delivering tangible results. Through recently enhanced cooperation, trade between the two nations has grown significantly, with Zambia's exports to China doubling over the past five years to a record USD 4.2 billion.

President Hichilema said that, with his renewed mandate, Zambia had reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate work on the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) corridor. The Government, he added, is determined to facilitate trade and support the growth of businesses that rely on the vital route to move goods to regional and international markets.

The President stressed that foreign trade diplomacy remains central to his Grow Zambia agenda, positioning stronger international partnerships as a key driver of exports, investment and job creation as the country moves into a new phase of accelerated economic growth.
