HH Signs Free Education and Pension Bills into Law

President Hakainde Hichilema has signed five Bills into law, strengthening protections for the Zambian people. He described the move as part of the UPND's wider reforms to improve education across the country and transform Zambia's economy.

The Bills signed were the Education (Amendment) Bill 2026, the National Pension Scheme Bill 2026, the Public Service Pensions Bill 2026, the Pension Scheme Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2026, and the Local Authorities Superannuation Bill 2026.

The President said the pension reforms would bring "clear and immediate benefits", describing the laws as a defining moment that would protect children and workers for generations to come.

Education, he added, is the "best investment and the greatest equaliser". He pointed to other government reforms, including teacher recruitment and improvements to water and sanitation, as measures designed to support free education, and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results.

Looking ahead, the President set out plans to build public universities in the six provinces that currently have none, acknowledging that "more work remains to be done".
