President Hichilema marks landmark day in Western Province

President Hakainde Hichilema undertook a full programme of engagements in Western Province yesterday, beginning with a courtesy call on His Majesty the Litunga, Lubosi Imwiko II, at Limulunga Palace, where he was warmly received.

The President then commissioned the rehabilitated Mongu–Limulunga Road, a 28.9-kilometre stretch of urban road that he described as a symbol of tangible development and a break from years of neglect. He said the project reflects his administration's infrastructure drive built on cost efficiency, quality delivery and timely completion. Infrastructure Minister Charles Milupi revealed that government had renegotiated the inherited contract from US$31 million, with the savings channelled into further projects including road extensions, bridges, and a dual carriageway from Kambule to the Mongu roundabout.

President Hichilema then commissioned the Hakainde Hichilema Mini Hospital in Mongu District, a facility built using the First Family's own resources and gifted to the people. The hospital, handed over to the Ministry of Health, will provide comprehensive first-level health services to over 16,000 people. Health Minister Dr Alex Katakwe also confirmed that medicine availability in the area now stands at over 86 percent.

The day concluded with a community engagement at Mulambwa Grounds in Mongu, where the President reaffirmed government's commitment to delivery across infrastructure, healthcare and economic empowerment. He called for a stronger mandate at the 2026 elections, urging residents to elect UPND councillors, mayors and Members of Parliament to ensure development continues at every level.

The President’s schedule continues in Western today.
