China Donates Fleet of 80 Vehicles to Strengthen Security Ahead of August Elections
The Government of the People's Republic of China has handed over a fleet of 80 operational vehicles to the Zambian Government, in a move set to bolster security operations ahead of the August 2026 General Elections.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security described the donation as a reflection of the deep-rooted diplomatic and strategic partnership between Zambia and China. The handover comes at a pivotal moment, with political activity expected to intensify in the months leading up to the polls, and the new fleet is being hailed as a vital boost to Zambia's ability to maintain peace, order, and democratic integrity.
Receiving the donation, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Hon. Jacob Mwiimbu said the vehicles would play a crucial role in enhancing both the operational and administrative capabilities of departments under his ministry. He stressed that as the country approaches a high-stakes election cycle, the need for a mobile, visible, and responsive security apparatus has never been greater.
"Maintaining law and order and protecting citizens are essential for safeguarding our democratic processes. This support ensures our security wings are prepared for the tasks ahead," the Minister said.
The donation was facilitated through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a platform that has become the cornerstone of economic and political cooperation between the two nations, continuing to deliver tangible benefits for Zambia's development and security.
