President Hichilema Condemns US–Iran Conflict and Warns of Economic Ripple Effects

President Hakainde Hichilema has strongly condemned the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran, reaffirming Zambia's firm stance against war and calling for an immediate end to hostilities.

Speaking in Lusaka today while addressing councillors drawn from across the country, the President warned that the deepening geopolitical crisis poses serious risks to the global economy, with potential consequences that could be felt directly on Zambian soil.

Of particular concern, he said, is the impact the conflict could have on global fuel prices. Zambia has benefited in recent months from a downward trend in fuel costs, and the President cautioned that a prolonged military confrontation in the Middle East could reverse those gains.

Despite these external threats, President Hichilema sought to reassure the nation that his administration remains firmly focused on safeguarding economic stability. He told councillors that Government is taking every necessary step to ensure the country's economy stays on the right trajectory, even in the face of global uncertainty.

Zambia's call for peace adds to a growing chorus of voices from the African continent urging restraint and a return to diplomacy as the primary means of resolving the dispute.
