Sikumba Scoops Global Conservation Award in Nashville

Tourism Minister Rodney Sikumba has been honoured with the prestigious 2026 Legislator of the Year Award by Safari Club International (SCI) in recognition of his leadership in wildlife conservation and the promotion of sustainable hunting.

The award was presented at the Music City Convention Center in Nashville, United States, during the annual SCI Convention — one of the world's largest gatherings of conservationists, policymakers, tourism leaders, and industry stakeholders.

The SCI Legislator of the Year Award is conferred annually on a distinguished global leader who demonstrates exceptional commitment to science-based conservation, progressive policy development, and the sustainable use of wildlife resources.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Mr Sikumba said the recognition affirms the Zambian Government's unwavering commitment to protecting the country's rich wildlife heritage and promoting responsible conservation practices.

"This award belongs to Zambia and to every community that plays a role in safeguarding our natural resources," Mr Sikumba said.

The Minister reiterated Government's dedication to strengthening conservation systems, safeguarding wildlife resources, and positioning tourism as a cornerstone of the country's economic transformation agenda.

Zambia has in recent years stepped up efforts to combat poaching, expand community-based natural resource management, and attract sustainable tourism investment as part of broader efforts to diversify the economy beyond mining and agriculture.

The award further enhances Zambia's growing international profile as a leader in conservation on the African continent.
