Chipokota Mwanawasa Joins Trafigura As Executive Director For Zambia

Ms Chipokota Mwanawasa has been appointed Executive Director for Zambia at Trafigura, the global commodities group, bringing her experience at the heart of government to one of the country’s longest-standing international investors.

The appointment follows her departure from State House, announced on 16 October 2026. Ms Mwanawasa served as Policy Advisor to President Hakainde Hichilema and, before that, as Deputy Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, where she helped drive implementation of the Eighth National Development Plan.

At Trafigura, she will coordinate the group’s activities across metals and minerals, energy and logistics, and lead engagement with commercial, institutional and government stakeholders.

Ms Mwanawasa described the role as an important new chapter and an opportunity to support Trafigura’s continued growth and long-term presence in Zambia. “We look forward to working with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to strengthen collaboration across key sectors and contribute to Zambia’s economic development,” she said.

Trafigura has operated in Zambia for more than 20 years and, together with its subsidiaries, employs around 300 people in the country, with significant operations in fuel storage, distribution and retail.

In its statement, State House said Ms Mwanawasa had expressed her sincere appreciation to President Hichilema and the Government for the trust placed in her, and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the Grow Zambia agenda from the private sector. The President thanked her for her service and wished her every success in her new responsibilities.
