Police Investigate Sampa Over False Polling Station Claims

The police have opened an investigation into Matero MP Miles Sampa over allegations he spread false information about the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

The complaint was filed on January 19, 2026, by Raphael Phiri, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the ECZ, in response to a statement Sampa allegedly made four days earlier.

According to police, the MP claimed that a fraudulent polling station had been set up along Ring Road in Lusaka during the recent Chawama Constituency by-election—an allegation the ECZ has categorically denied.

Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that the case has been registered under the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025, specifically Section 19, which deals with the transmission of unsolicited or deceptive communication. The provision targets the spread of false information, particularly through digital platforms.

Chilabi told ZNBC News that investigations are underway, with further updates to follow.
