ECZ has set 30 April 2026 as Voter Eligibility Cutoff Date to Verify Age
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 30 April 2026 as the cutoff date for verifying age eligibility for voter registration, meaning any citizen who turns 18 on or before that date will qualify to register in the upcoming mass voter registration exercise.
ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said the move underscores the Commission’s commitment to increasing youth participation in the democratic process. Addressing the Local Government Service Commission, she stressed that Town Clerks, Council Secretaries, and local authorities play a critical role in supporting and strengthening electoral activities at the district level.
Local Government Service Commission Vice Chairperson Brian Ndumba added that only credible professionals and officers will be engaged to manage elections, ensuring transparency. He further called for protection of election officers as they carry out their duties.
Meanwhile, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa urged traditional leaders to foster unity during the election period and reminded all eligible citizens to exercise their civic responsibility by registering to vote.
The announcement of the cutoff date highlights the ECZ’s focus on youth engagement, transparency, and community cooperation ahead of the 2026 general elections.
