Hichilema Urges New Envoys to Deliver Results
President Hakainde Hichilema has called on newly appointed ambassadors to deliver tangible results and generate economic benefits for Zambia, stressing that attracting investment must be a top priority. He noted that his demand for delivery comes after several envoys failed to bring meaningful financial gains to the country over the past four to seven years.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of four ambassadors and two senior Cabinet Office officials, Hichilema praised the appointees for their hard work but reminded them that diplomacy is a job, not a holiday. He urged representatives to remain passionate, aligned with Zambia’s development agenda, and to avoid using foreign postings for personal benefit.
The new ambassadors include Albert Muchanga (Ethiopia), Nkombo Muuka (United Arab Emirates), Abidon Mawere (Russia), and Grace Mutembo (South Africa). Also sworn in were Eugene Moonga, director of policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation at Cabinet Office, and Muyambango Nkwemu, a public policy specialist in the same division.
Hichilema stressed that Zambia requires envoys who are proactive in attracting investment, strengthening the tourism sector, and building international partnerships.
