PF’s Davies Chama Guilty of Shooting UPND Supporter

Former Minister of Defence and Patriotic Front secretary general Davies Chama has been detained after being found guilty of shooting and wounding UPND supporter Mishaukwa Mishaukwa in 2015.

Mr Chama, alongside his former driver Brian Ngoni, was convicted on August 1, 2025, of one count of Acts Intended to Cause Grievous Harm, contrary to Section 224(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The case relates to the shooting that occurred during the Mulobezi Parliamentary by-election on June 6, 2015. The circumstances of the alleged crime were that Mr Chama and Mr Ngoni intentionally wounded Mr Mishaukwa with the aim of disabling or disfiguring him.

Both of the accused men denied the allegations before Mongu High Court, presided over by Judge John Mbuzi.

The court heard that Mr Ngoni allegedly attempted to stab Mr Mishaukwa with a knife on the chest whilst the victim was on the ground. In an attempt to defend himself, the victim sustained injuries to the right hand and on the left buttock.

It is further alleged that, following the previous altercation, Mr Chama and Mr Ngoni tied the victim’s hands with a rope, attached it to a vehicle, and dragged him for around 50 metres.

As a result of both altercations, the victim sustained serious wounds.

Following the evidence provided, Judge John Mbuzi found the prosecution had proved the allegations against Mr Chama and Mr Ngoni beyond reasonable doubt and pronounced a guilty verdict.

Sentencing is to be delivered on August 8, 2025.
