Israel to Inaugurate New Embassy in Zambia
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar is in Zambia to inaugurate Israel’s new embassy in Lusaka, marking a renewed chapter in relations between the two countries.
According to a statement from his office, Sa’ar will hold talks with President Hakainde Hichilema, Foreign Minister Mulambo Haimbe, and Speaker of Parliament Nelly Mutti. Discussions are expected to focus on “a series of initiatives” aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The inauguration ceremony, set for tomorrow, is described by Sa’ar’s office as “an important step in deepening bilateral ties with Zambia,” and part of his broader strategy to expand Israel’s presence and partnerships across Africa this year.
Israel previously operated an embassy in Zambia during the 1960s and 1970s, before closing it amid a wider retreat of diplomatic missions on the continent. Zambia, for its part, reopened its embassy in Israel in 2015.
