Zambia Set to be Fastest Growing Economy in Africa

Bloomberg’s latest global economic outlook has confirmed that Zambia’s economy is expected to grow by over 6% in 2025. The extent of this growth will mean that the country will have the fastest growing GDP across Africa.

Bloomberg’s newly published forecast has taken into consideration the momentous economic turnaround that the country has seen under the guidance of President Hakainde Hichilema. Speaking on the matter, President Hichilema commented that the result of a growing economy “means more jobs, better pay, stronger public services, and real opportunities for every Zambian to build a better life.” He added that the milestone follows the momentous debt restructuring in June 2024 which helped to unlock investor confidence in the country.

In addition, Finance and National Planning Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane noted that Bloomberg’s revised positive outlook “reflects not only the resilience of our fellow countrymen, women, and the youth, but also the bold reforms that have diligently been undertaken by the New Dawn Administration and embraced by stakeholders in the economy.”

It is anticipated that this forecast could result in the country serving as the global leader in economic growth for the year.
