Catholic Priest Accuses PF’s Lubinda of Politicising Lungu’s Funeral
Catholic priest Fr Andrew Chewe Mukosa has accused PF acting vice president Given Lubinda of misleading the family of late former president Edgar Lungu for political gain.
Speaking on KBN TV on Tuesday, Fr Mukosa claimed Lubinda was exploiting the funeral for partisan purposes.
“Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s family was misled by people like Given Lubinda. That man has made a mistake, and that man was using this for political reasons,” Mukosa said.
He stressed that the death of a head of state should unite the nation, citing the example of Dr Kenneth Kaunda.
“By his death, Dr Kaunda brought tribalism down. There were no divisions. What of Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s death?” he asked.
Fr Mukosa urged that Lungu be laid to rest with honour, respect, and the love that the deceased deserve, warning against turning the occasion into a political battleground. He acknowledged that mistakes had been made, but insisted they should be set aside for the funeral, adding: “Politics should come afterwards.”
Meanwhile, he called on the UPND government to focus on fulfilling campaign promises instead of sparring with the opposition.
