Zambia and Botswana Sign Cooperation Agreements

Zambia and Botswana have signed agreements pledging greater cooperation in health, risk management, and governance during a state visit by Botswanan President Duma Boko.

During a bilateral meeting with President Boko, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) pledging greater cooperation with Botswana on technical and professional health education, as well as a multi-sector response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe signed a further MoU on procedural rules governing the Zambia-Botswana Bi-National Commission. This commission was officially opened on Wednesday and is the highest level platform for cooperation between the two countries, working on everything from trade and infrastructure, to agriculture, education, and tourism.

The two countries also signed a framework to strengthen collaboration in the field of risk management.

President Boko arrived in Zambia on Friday morning for a two-day visit and was met at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by President Hakainde Hichilema, before being escorted to State House for a series of bilateral meetings.

President Boko is being hosted as the guest of honor at the 97th Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show on Saturday, before returning back to Botswana.
