Nigeria and Zambia Deepen Bilateral Ties, Pledge Joint Commitment to African Development
Nigeria and Zambia have reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic ties and mutual commitment to advancing development across the African continent. This renewed partnership was highlighted during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja between Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Dr. Samuel Miambo, Special Envoy of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema.
Dr. Miambo delivered a special message from President Hichilema, underlining Zambia’s desire to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria on key continental issues, including security, infrastructure and sustainable development.
Vice-President Shettima commended Zambia’s enduring democratic principles and political stability since its independence. He specifically praised the country’s historical role in promoting civil liberties and supporting the anti-apartheid movement in southern Africa.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the Zambian people, Shettima noted that Nigeria would continue to support Zambia through shared development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods in both countries.
Earlier, Miambo sought Nigeria’s support for his candidacy for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB). He emphasised the importance of Nigeria’s endorsement, citing the country’s significant influence in regional affairs and its longstanding commitment to Africa’s development institutions.
The meeting concluded with both nations expressing a shared vision for Africa’s progress, grounded in collaboration on security, infrastructure and regional stability.
