Copperbelt Clergy Condemn Attack on President Hichilema
The Copperbelt Clergy Consultative Forum has strongly condemned the recent attack on President Hakainde Hichilema during a campaign rally in Chingola. The clergy described the actions of the unruly youths involved as criminal and unacceptable, stressing that such behaviour has no place in a nation that upholds Christian values.
Bishop Raddy Lewila, Chairperson of the Copperbelt Clergy Consortium, announced that the Church will hold a prayer gathering in Chingola aimed at fostering peace and unity. He further called for a thorough police investigation to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice. So far, thirteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Additioanlly, Bishop Hendie Bwalya appealed to Chingola residents to express their grievances through constructive and peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.
Bishop Lewila reaffirmed the Church’s support for President Hichilema, praising his continued efforts towards national development and stability.
Meanwhile, Chikondi Foundation President, Bishop John Mambo, denounced the violence and underscored the importance of peace and security. He urged Zambians to engage in dialogue, especially during times of tension, to maintain unity and peaceful coexistence. Bishop Mambo also commended President Hichilema for his continued commitment to peace, calling on citizens to emulate his efforts to promote national harmony.
