UK and Zambia Deepen Ties Following President Hichilema’s Successful Visit
The British High Commission in Zambia has described President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent three-day working visit to the United Kingdom as a major success, marking a deepening of diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commission said the UK and Zambia remain “bound by shared values and a commitment to sustainable economic growth and development.”
President Hichilema met with UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy, where discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key areas, including democratic governance, trade and investment, sovereignty, and global peace and security.
During the bilateral meetings, Lammy commended Zambia for their progress on debt restructuring and the decision to join the UK-led supply chain mission of the G20 Global Clean Power Alliance.
The UK-Zambia Green Growth Compact remains central to the relationship, aiming to attract £2.5 billion in UK private sector investment - over £1.3 billion of which has already been committed. The partnership also includes over 700MW of renewable energy projects in development.
