Four Former PF Ministers Face Legal Action Over Debt

Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has revealed that Chishimba Kambwili, Fackson Shamenda, Panji Kaunda and Dawson Kafwaya collectively owe K230,064.36 as of July this year.

The debt stems from salaries the ministers received in 2016 after staying in their positions beyond the constitutionally permitted period. The Constitutional Court later ordered all affected ministers to repay the money.

Speaking in Parliament, Mrs Nalumango said 59 other ministers who had also overstayed in office have since repaid their debts in full.

"The matter involving the four former ministers has been referred to the Office of the Attorney General for appropriate action," the Vice-President told MPs.

She was responding to a question from Katombora Member of Parliament Clement Andeleki, who had asked how many of the ministers ordered by the Constitutional Court to repay money had complied with the ruling.

The referral to the Attorney General's office signals that the government is preparing to take legal steps to recover the outstanding funds from the four former ministers.
