Zambia's Commitment to Democracy Highlighted in Meeting with ZCID Delegation

This morning at State House, a delegation from the Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID), led by Ambassador Joyce Musenge, made a courtesy call to the presidency. The meeting served as a platform to discuss Zambia's democratic progress and the collaborative efforts needed to further enhance it.

During the meeting, President Hichilema noted the strides made in upholding democratic principles since assuming office in 2021. Other notable achievements include restoring media freedom—a fundamental aspect of democracy.

The President reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to advancing democracy, acknowledging the pivotal role of dialogue in addressing challenges and fostering unity within the country.

Calling upon the ZCID to support collaboration with the government, President Hichilema also noted the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting peace and unity.

Furthermore, the administration reaffirmed its dedication to constitutional and legislative reforms aimed at strengthening governance institutions. Key reforms include the recent repeal of the President’s defamation law and the enactment of the freedom of information law.
