Former Economic Advisor Charged With Over 60 Counts Of Corruption

A former Patriotic Front economic advisor, Hibeene Mwiinga, has been charged with over 60 counts of corruption.

The charges accuse Mr Mwiinga of possession of a property valued at over K41 million, which is suspected to have been purchased using funds likely to be the proceeds of crime.

Additionally, the charges also concern the possession of cash accumulated under suspicious circumstances. The funds amount to over US$238,900 .

Alongside Mr Mwiinga, his wife and son have also been charged with corruption.

In total, the family face more than 66 charges spanning a total of 54 properties by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The properties linked to the family were purchased between 2015 and 2021.

Mr Mwiinga had been the ex-president Lungu’s Special Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs. He worked closely with the president throughout his government’s rule.

The charges relay the New Dawn Government’s commitment to stamping out all forms of corruption in Zambia in a bid to bring stability and prosperity to the country.
