UPND Has No Plans To Dethrone Chief Chitimukulu
The UPND has denied reports by the Daily Nation news site that the party intends to dethrone Paramount Chief Chitimukulu if it comes to power following next year’s general election.
In a statement the party said that it would not respond to the chief’s reported statements via the media but rather would make itself available for discussions with Chief Chitimukulu at his discretion.
In the statement the UPND describes itself as holding cultural leaders such as Chief Chitimukulu “in high esteem as custodians of our diverse cultural diversity”.
It went on to plead with His Royal Highness not to “allow himself to become a tool of people with ulterior motives meant simply to divide our people through discredited and debunked tribal labelling”.
“We will always respect Traditional leaders because they have a serious role in people’s livelihood, as they are there to use their respected voice which is always appreciated to facilitate and guide their subjects for sustainable development and foster unity.” It added.
