HH Pays Tribute To The Late MP Rodgers Mwewa
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has paid tribute to the late Rodgers Mwewa after the Mwansabombwe MP died on Saturday evening.
Mr Hichilema said he and the UPND joined the people of Mwansabombwe and the entire artistic community in mourning the death of a devoted artist and public servant.
“Honourable Mwewa started the Mwansabombwe Cultural Festival held in Luapula to uplift the trade in rural Zambia. This was a commendable move”, he said.
The opposition leader also paid homage to Mr Mwewa’s charity work, founding the ‘Fountain of Hope’ organisation in Kamwala in order to protect and shelter children living on the streets.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and constituents in Mwansabombwe. May his soul rest in peace,” Mr Hichilema concluded.
Mr Mwewa died on Saturday evening, shortly after the Independent MP for Lukashya, Mwenya Munkonge, also passed away earlier that day.
Mr Mwewa experienced difficulty breathing from Friday night and was admitted to the CFB Medical Centre in Lusaka.
Hi condition deteriorated through the night and by Saturday morning he required oxygen support.
At midday on Saturday, the PF MP was transported to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital but the hospital’s ventilators were not working so his medical team were forced to move him again to UTH where he died on arrival.
