PF Breaking Records For Hooliganism And Thuggery - UPND
The UPND has accused the incumbent PF party of setting new records for hooliganism and thuggery following an incident in which PF cadres beat up police officers in one of the largest police stations in Zambia.
UPND Deputy Secretary Patrick Mucheleka said not even the infamous UNIP vigilantes, who terrorised citizens during Zambia’s one party era, reached the level of violence currently exhibited by members of the PF.
Mr Mucheleka’s statement follows incidents at police stations across Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces, including PF cadres assaulting officers at Central Police station. Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja called the situation unacceptable and warned that he had directed his officers to apply the full force of the law against rioters.
Mucheleka said his party had cautioned of violence on the part of the PF for years, but their warnings had gone unanswered.
“We have repeatedly warned that violence has no end once it starts and encouraged by those in authority because one day they will equally be victims of the same”, he said.
He recalled the altercation over Bill 10 at the Intercontinental Hotel and at the Shesheke by-eleciton as similar examples of thuggery by the PF.
“It is now clear Zambia is finally a failed state because if law enforcement agencies cannot deal with perpetrators of such heinous crimes, where will ordinary citizens run to for security since police stations are equally not safe,” he concluded.
