Lusambo Reported To ACC For Abuse Of Authority
Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo has been reported to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by several youth members of his own party, the Patriotic Front. The youths allege that Minister Lusambo has abused the authority of his office.
Speaking to journalists, one of the youths noted that “the Honourable Lusambo has been donating assorted goods with millions of kwacha to his constituency beyond his income and financial means as a Minister and member of parliament, which donations have been in the public domain for more than a year now.”
They called on the ACC to investigate Mr Lusambo for possible abrogations of the anti-corruption Act.
The report further condemned the Lusaka Province minister for allegedly abusing and torturing people found to be patronising bars after the presidential decrees on Covid-19 banned such activity.
Mr Lusambo freely admitted to whipping members of the public found in bars and, in an interview with Diamond TV on April 6, threatened to extend the same punishment to church-goers.
The complaint by PF youths further criticised Mr Lusambo’s demolition of properties in the luMunali area between January 1 and 10 as well as threats issued by the minister on social media to musicians Brian Bwembya, Chellah Tukuta and Kings ‘Malembe Malembe’ Mumbi. This latter action, the youths complained, violated the musicians’ right to free expression.
A report has been filed with the Director General of the ACC, with no comment from the Commission as yet.
