No Sign Of New Medical Staff
As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues its upwards trend pressure on health workers rises.
Earlier this month the government announced the planned recruitment of 400 doctors and 3,000 additional health workers in response to the pandemic. However, the recruitment is yet to get off the ground, raising concerns as to just how soon the staff will be available.
Meanwhile, five workers at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital have contracted COVID-19. The development was confirmed by a Ministry of Health briefing yesterday afternoon.
According to Minister Chitalu Chilufya there is adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers in the country. The government is also retraining and reorienting health workers who are working on the frontline in a bid to minimise risk.
