UPND Donates Beef To Ministry Of Health

The opposition UPND is among those to have made donations to the Ministry of Health COVID-19 Committee over the past week

The party has donated beef, along with 100 by 25 kg bags of mealie meal, 20 boxes of soap, 10 thermometers and 20 boxes of hand sanitizers. The donation was handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs by the UPND Secretary General Stephen Katuka handed over the donation to Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo at the Lusaka Central Correctional Facility.

Commenting on the donation UPND President Hakainde Hichilema stated, “Let us continue to do everything we can to help our people.”

The UPND and Hichilema previously announced a nationwide distribution of hygiene products in support of efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

As Mr Hichilema coordinated the donation he stressed that Coronavirus is real and should be taken seriously.

“Life is a gift from God. We cannot afford to lose it if we are able to protect a life,” he added.

The UPND leader spoke of the importance of working together.

“This is not time to point fingers at each other; it is time to come together in unity and fight Covid-19.”

Making his contribution of hand sanitizers, face masks and hygiene soaps Mr Hichilema stated, “We commend the willingness among members of society in adhering to strict hygiene practices but unfortunately most of our people are impeded by the limitations in resources, hence our decision to contribute especially to needy and vulnerable communities.”

“We need to adhere to strict health guidelines as provided by health authorities. It's a serious matter that requires concerted efforts and we call upon the corporate world and ordinary individuals to make their contributions towards this fight which cannot be left to the government or to any one individual or group of individuals only.”
