Minister Nkanda Luo has shut down Copperbelt University with immediate effect, for an indefinite amount of time.

The move came after students protested yesterday and reportedly damaged property.

In a press conference she noted that she had banned CBU Union also and told students they have 18 hours to leave the campus.

The move has been met with fierce criticism. The closure will jeopardise many students education and has been branded dictatorial. The government has been increasingly trying to silence critics following delayed payments to civil servant and poor management of educational institutions.

She has further directed management to ensure that disciplinary action is taken against identified students that took part in the riots.
