NRPUP-Linked Pages Spread False Claims as Zambia Awaits Results

As Zambia awaits the final election results, NRPUP-aligned social media pages have circulated a wave of unverified and often contradictory claims about presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and other political figures, including the false assertion that he had died.

In recent days, the pages have alleged variously that Mundubile had been placed under house arrest, shot and hospitalised, and that Tasila Lungu's husband, Mwansa, had been killed. Two pages, Chair The Voice of Zambia and The Candidate, first reported Mundubile's death before revising the claim to say he was alive but had been shot and was being treated at Force Headquarters.

The NRPUP media team, meanwhile, claimed Mundubile had been detained at Ibex Police Station, with Emmanuel Mwamba sharing an old video before deleting the post. Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi dismissed the reports as false.
