Over 304,000 Children Vaccinated

The Ministry of Health has vaccinated more than 304,000 children across five districts as part of an emergency campaign to halt active measles transmission.

Ministry of Health Head of Communication and Public Relations Twaambo Siavwapa confirmed that the Emergency Measles-Rubella Outbreak Response Immunisation Campaign has concluded in five priority districts, with 304,774 children vaccinated - representing 88 percent of the target population.

Mr Siavwapa said ongoing transmission is being driven largely by immunity gaps within the population, making the rapid rollout of the campaign critical to breaking the chain of infection.

Provincial Health Director Dr Simulyamana Choonga said the province has recorded a cumulative total of over 155 measles cases since the start of the year, with two deaths recorded.

Measles is highly contagious but preventable through vaccination. Health authorities have urged parents and caregivers to ensure their children are up to date with routine immunisations, warning that unvaccinated children remain at risk even as the emergency campaign concludes.
