Copperbelt Hospitals Boosted With Modern Diagnostic Equipment

The Government has delivered a range of modern medical equipment to health facilities across the Copperbelt Province, significantly strengthening diagnostic capacity in the region.

Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwanza said the consignment includes digital portable X-ray machines, CT scanners, ultrasound machines and MRI machines, among other advanced technology. He said several facilities have already benefited, among them Kitwe Teaching Hospital, Ndola Teaching Hospital, Chifubu Level 2 Hospital and Chimwemwe Level 2 Hospital.

The upgrade is expected to ease the pressure on patients who previously had to travel long distances for specialist scans and tests that were not available locally.

Ndola Teaching Hospital Head of Clinical Care, Dr Misa Funjika, said the new equipment had already improved service delivery. She noted that some of the machines provided were previously found only in Lusaka or in private health facilities, meaning residents can now access advanced diagnostics much closer to home.

Provincial Medical Officer Dr Charles Mwinuna said the investment reflected the UPND administration's sustained commitment to the health sector. He explained that the province had benefited not only from new equipment but also from wider improvements to health infrastructure.

The developments form part of broader Government efforts to modernise public healthcare and ensure that quality diagnostic services reach communities beyond the capital. Officials say the equipment will help clinicians detect and treat conditions earlier, reduce unnecessary referrals to Lusaka, and improve health outcomes for patients right across the Copperbelt Province.
