UNZA Students Return as ZNS Completes Rehabilitation Works

Students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) have begun returning to campus following the successful completion of rehabilitation works on the institution's hostels and main sewer system, carried out by the Zambia National Service (ZNS).

The improvements, which focused on upgrading sanitation and living conditions, have paved the way for the resumption of normal academic activities at the country's largest public university.

Several of the returning students have welcomed the development, expressing gratitude to the Government for stepping in to improve facilities and restore a healthier campus environment. They said the rehabilitation had made it possible for learning to resume and that their attention has now turned to preparing for their upcoming examinations.

The involvement of the Zambia National Service in the project reflects the Government's continued commitment to improving infrastructure and sanitation across the country's higher learning institutions, ensuring that students are able to study in safe and dignified conditions.

UNZA Acting Head of Communication and Marketing, Damaseke Chibale, confirmed that the phased return of students is progressing well, with the remaining students expected to report back to campus on 1 August 2026.

The successful completion of the works marks an important step in strengthening the learning environment at UNZA and supporting students as they prepare for the next phase of the academic calendar.
