27,000 Households Benefit from Social Cash Transfer Programme in Kitwe

The number of households benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer Programme in Kitwe has risen significantly, increasing from more than 9,000 in 2021 to over 27,000.

Kitwe District Commissioner Oncemore Ngonomo attributed the increase to the careful management of public resources by the government and its partners.

Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News, Mr Ngonomo said the expansion of the programme demonstrates the government's continued commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society and helping them cope with economic challenges.

He noted that beneficiaries include persons living with disabilities, older people, and female-headed households.

Mr Ngonomo further revealed that since 2021, a total of 9,921 mobile phones have been distributed to beneficiary households, with 1,914 issued during this year's distribution exercise.

He added that the programme has contributed to improved livelihoods among beneficiaries while also stimulating economic activity within local communities.
